Living in a wonderful time

I feel like there are some very wonderful things about the times we live in now. Last night, very late, I heard owls hooting in the trees outside our bedroom window. I lay in bed quite a while listening to them and delighting in the fact that there are actually owls living in the endless suburb that is Southern California.

I lay there for a while, wondering what kind of owls they were and finally decided to find out. Sat up and started up the iPad and looked for owl calls. When I played the horned owl mating/territory calls there was a flurry of hooting from outside the window. It was very cool. The owls know their own.

I’m going to guess that they might be the explanation for the dismembered mouse carcass the Spouse found on the patio earlier in the week.
