Tiger Bee Fly

Tiger Bee Fly 201107

This fellow, from what I can find, is a Tiger Bee Fly. The larvae are parasites of carpenter bees and this one was on the sawdust outside of the bee stump. There’d been a couple of larvae out there the day before. I’ve seen them several of the things over the past few years. I’d thought it was a predator of the bees or the larvae, but parasite makes more sense.
