The hummingbaby leaper leapt one more time this morning. I woke to the sound of peeps. Oh no, not again. I went down to the atrium and mama bird was looking for her fallen child, darting down around the base of the palm trees. She couldn’t find it. It took me a couple of tries and a strong pair of glasses. Back on the nest it went.
The larger sibling is hanging around the nest, but is no longer sitting in it. It spent a lot of time this weekend in flight practice.
I’d stopped taking pictures of the nest after the first fallout. It was just too depressing to think that one might be lost. Now that the largest is fledged and the dropout nearly so I’m not going to worry quite so much.
