I just don’t understand

Someone that I work with believes that you can catch a cold from a change in the weather.  That you get the flu because the weather changes from cool to warm or it’s windy.  That you get pneumonia from spending too much time outdoors.

How, in this day and age, can someone understand bacteria and viruses?
